Water fluoridation is the controlled addition of fluoride to water. Many developed nations like the US have committed to this process to their public water supply system.

Water fluoridation is beneficial because fluoride helps prevent tooth decay. Fluoride is one of the core ingredients of many toothpaste brands and other consumer products for dental health.

But although rare, chronic consumption of elevated fluoride levels can have severe consequences, such as abdominal pain, muscle spasms, and symptoms of skeletal fluorosis.

Some studies even suggest that too much fluoride consumption can result in acne, bone disease, brain damage, impaired fetal growth, and thyroid issues.

If you live in the US, you are more likely to take in too much fluoride because fluoride is often added to the municipal water supply. Fortunately, there is a way to remove fluoride from your water.

The best way to remove fluoride from your water is by using a filtration system. The complexity of the filtration system will depend on your preference.

FILTERING YOUR WATER

A filter jug is enough if you prefer to filter only your drinking water. But if you choose to filter every tap in your home, you may need a more extensive filtration system.

AVOID BELIEVING IN HOME REMEDIES THAT CLAIM TO FILTER OUT FLUORIDE

Adding lemon, boiling water, and other well-intentioned remedies don’t work. They can even do more harm than good.  In fact, boiling water has been shown to increase the concentration of fluoride salt.

With a little bit of knowledge and perhaps a quality filtration system, it’s possible to have safe fluoride levels in your water.
