IS V8 GOOD FOR YOU?

WRITTEN BY MEG EDITED BY ABIGAIL FEWEL, MS, RD, LDN

V8 is a well-known juice brand that produces fruit and vegetable beverages. It gets its name from the 8 vegetables that are combined in the original recipe. But, Is V8 all that healthy?

A can of V8 provides 15% of an adult’s recommended daily intake of vitamin A. This vitamin is particularly great for your eyesight, immune system, and reproductive system.

It is rich in vitamin A

A can of V8 provides 60% of an adult’s recommended daily intake of vitamin C. This nutrient doesn’t just boost your immune system but also helps develop and repair tissues.

IT IS PACKED

WITH POTASSIUM

Many V8 recipes variations contain lots of potassium. This mineral can ease anxiety and stress, regulate high blood pressure, and relieve heart disorders.

IT HAS RELATIVELY LOW SUGAR

V8 recipes are low on sugar when compared to other juice brands. A can of V8 contains 5g of sugar, while other juice brands can have around 15g for the same amount.

BUT V8 DOES HAVE SHORTCOMINGS...

It undergoes pasteurization, which destroys many of the remaining fiber and nutrients in the fruits and vegetables. It also has a lot of sodium (440mg)

We will say V8 is good for you. But contrary to marketing claims, do not rely on it for all your fruit and vegetable needs. As in most things, the key is moderation and balance.
