We've heard that water is one of the best drinks for staying hydrated and healthy. But what happens when essential vitamins are added? Does it become even better? So, lets talk vitaminwater
WHAT IS VITAMIN WATER?
Vitamin-infused water is water with vitamins. The most popular brand is the Coca-Cola sub brand called Vitaminwater. However, other brands include Propel, Blk.Water, and LIFEWTR
The predominant advantage of drinking a drink like this is that you get the vitamins missing in your diet and meet your hydration goals all in one sweep.
But Vitaminwater has one big flaw – almost all of its flavors contain a substantial amount of added sugar, making it more soda than water and, therefore, unhealthy if drunk frequently.
The Issue
According to the American Heart Association, the maximum recommended amount of added sugar is 37.5g for men and 25g for women. Drinking just one bottle of Vitaminwater would meet this guideline and leave nothing for anything else.
Too much sugar can quickly cause worrying side effects if consumed regularly, such as anxiety, heart disease, high blood sugar, type 2 diabetes, stroke, sugar crashes, and weight gain.
Almost all the added vitamins contained in Vitaminwater are water-soluble. If you are already on a healthy diet or supplements, they will have no significant effect as the body excretes them.
What's More...
But this doesn’t mean that you should completely avoid Vitaminwater. Moderation is key, so choose wisely if you are reaching for this drink at the store.
There are many homemade alternatives to Vitaminwater, such as fruit- herb-and vegetable infused water. Learn more about them on Drink Filtered.
